The Challenge
The goal is to design a ticketing system for city transit. City transit wants to know how technology can improve the experience for transit passengers.
Calgary Transit's current ticketing system is inconvenient and time-consuming. Users must go to transit stations or bus drivers to get tickets that expire within 90 minutes. Buying tickets via the bus driver requires exact change, and buying them from train stations is slow and frustrating. Bulk tickets must be purchased from retail, drug, or convenience stores, which is inconvenient. To improve the situation, a new system is needed that is fast, accessible, efficient, and offers users control over their fares and multiple payment options.
The system will be used by the general population, especially those who transit to and from work. It should be fast, accessible, appropriately informative and easy to use. The system will also be used by workers, students, and those who do not drive.
