The Challenge


The primary goal of this project is to develop an innovative interface that leverages Augmented Reality (AR) technology to enhance the way individuals communicate and collaborate, both in-person and remotely, within the domain of interior design and space planning. The interface will allow users to visualize and manipulate virtual furniture in a physical space using AR, enabling a seamless and interactive experience. This will not only facilitate more effective communication of ideas and design concepts but also foster collaborative decision-making processes in real-time, regardless of the participants' locations.

In essence, the project aims to streamline the collaborative process in space planning by providing a common virtual platform that is both accessible and efficient, ensuring that ideas can be communicated and understood with clarity and precision, thereby enhancing productivity and creativity in the collaborative design process. The concept video and narrative storyboard created for this project will showcase the interface's capabilities and user interactions, setting the stage for the subsequent implementation and demonstration of the final system.

The Solution


Concept Design:

The application interface comprises a series of screens, each with specific functionality to guide the user through the interior design process. The initial landing page presents a clean interface with options to choose items, view a menu, and place items within the AR environment.

 

Features and Functionality:

  1. Item Selection: Users can choose from a wide range of furniture and decor items. Each selection is visualized in real-time within the AR space.


  2. Menu Options: The menu provides access to various functionalities, such as changing colors, styles, or viewing different categories of items.


  3. Placement and Manipulation: Users can place items within their actual environment, adjust the location, and modify the size to ensure the perfect fit for their space.


  4. Rotation and Viewing Angles: The AR technology allows users to rotate the view to examine the setup from different angles, enhancing the decision-making process.


  5. Real-time Simulation: The application simulates how different items look next to each other, offering an on-the-spot comparison that helps in making informed decisions.


  6. Reset Function: A 'reset' feature enables users to clear all changes and start anew, providing flexibility and ease of use.

The application is designed with a user-centric approach, ensuring that the interface is intuitive and the AR experience is seamless. Users can interact with the digital items as if they were actual physical objects within their space, making it an engaging and immersive experience.

The Result


The final design introduces an AR-based system that acts as a communication bridge for individuals and professionals in the field of interior design, allowing them to share and collaborate on furnishing a space without the constraints of physical presence. Utilizing AR technology through mobile devices or AR glasses, users can place, arrange, and rotate virtual furniture within an actual room, providing a realistic and immersive perspective of the proposed layout. The system is designed to support both synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, offering tools such as live AR feeds for real-time interaction and the ability to save and share spatial arrangements for later review.
